Riverside Newcastle is delighted to be a part of Hit The North this year and what a fantastic line up we have on our stage!

We have the fantastic A Festival, A Parade, An alternative rock band from Newcastle Upon Tyne, UK. Since their formation in late 2015, the four-piece have already been widely championed by the people of the North and further afield, who have taken a shine to their unique blend of energetic, dark, intricate and melodic rock.

Next up are Headclouds, formally known as High Tide 15:47 this is another local band from Newcastle.

Then its Ulrika Spacek, described as “One of the most stirring bands to come out of London in a while” – The 405, “An art rock monolith” – Earmilk and “Inspiring burst of melodious and discordant chunky-guitar indie-rock” – Stereogum

Following them are Fatherson, they know all about the slow build. It’s there in the band’s backstory – they’re young men, barely into their twenties, but their tale together is old, stretching back into a shared childhood. And it’s there in the trio’s music – beautiful, emotional, uplifting, well-wrought songs that take their time to do their magic. Songs that know you don’t need a rush and a push and the chorus is ours. That you don’t have to try so hard to move the masses. If you mean it, they will come.

Then we have VANT, they are a British indie rock band formed in 2014 by frontman and songwriter Mattie Vant. In 2015 they signed to Parlophone Records. The band came together in London, while Mattie was working at Dalston venue, Birthdays. Originally from Seaham, Mattie has played in various bands, formulating the style for VANT whilst living in Brighton.

Headlining the Riverside stage is Frightened Rabbit, After their sell out show in Riverside in December we cannot wait for them to grace our stage once more. You are currently reading about Frightened Rabbit. They are a band who live in Glasgow and have done for some time. They record in bedrooms, cupboards and kitchens. Anyone can be in Frightened Rabbit. They have played some live shows in this city, but want to meet people from other cities, in order that they can come and blow into tubes when they play live. Lets keep pop music alive by getting it out of that dress and into a sweater.

Following the main proceedings we are delighted to be hosting an afterparty with RISE Newcastle with Astroid Boys. Rising out of Cardiff’s unlikely CF10 area code, Astroid Boys have cultivated a movement that transcends multiple sub-cultures – a growth that defines them less as a band, and more as voice for the youth. Team RISE has hooked up with Hit The North festival to bring you the best after party in town! Get the best of all 3 rooms in one package for one night only as we take to the stage after the mighty Astroid Boys to bring you RISE:REMIXED!
